Sofia Carson (Descendants) has boarded the cast of PLL's upcoming spinoff, The Perfectionists.
According to Freeform, Carson will play Ava, a beautiful trendsetting blogger and coder, who strives to be a fashion icon. She joins Pretty Little Liars stars Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish in the spinoff pilot.
In other Perfectionists news, exec producer Marlene King spilled new details about the offshoot in a report from TV Line.
The EP said:
Tonally, it’s very similar.
There is a big mystery, and there is a murder, and there are some characters who are a fractured group at the beginning of our story, and through a murder they become friends. So it’s similar in that regard, but it’s a whole new mystery, a whole new murder. We also have Alison and Mona coming from PLL to Beacon Heights, and that’ll all make sense when you see the pilot.
Additionally, King said that fans should expect to see familiar faces from the original PLL series to pop up not just in the pilot. King also warned that one of the characters won't survive the end of the series opener:
We’re meeting four new characters who are Perfectionists — and one of them won’t make it to the end of the pilot.
As to whether the show will only focus on all female characters, King revealed to Entertainment Tonight that this won't be the case. She said:
I felt like just as we were getting sort of into Season 5 and 6 of Pretty Little Liars, our guys became such an important part of the show.
I wanted to explore the relationship between guys and girls who can be friends and not necessarily boyfriend-girlfriend.
