The new season of Better Call Saul will even get darker as Jimmy inches closer to becoming Saul Goodman, exec producer Peter Gould has teased in a report.
He told EW:
This is the darkest, most dramatic season of Saul.
Some of the relationships go to very fraught, dramatic places that are shattering and exciting and maybe more than a little disturbing.
Speaking of relationships, expect to see series villain Gus to make a surprising move against Hector, teased Gould:
We’re going to see him take matters into his own hands in a very direct way, and we’re going to see him lay down one of the cleverest, most indirect plans.
Will we see more of Saul's future self, Gene?
According to star Bob Odenkirk, fans will see more of the character. The actor told EW:
There is more Gene. Gene’s been sucking it up for so long, however many months or a year or so since Breaking Bad ended, and it’s coming out of him, it’s exploding out of him. He can’t keep himself under wraps. Sort of by circumstance, but he’s just going crazy. And he starts to fall apart. What will emerge, I do not know. I would love to see this guy put his life back together, maybe with some wisdom.
BONUS SPOILER BIT:
* Showrunners Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan hint that Walter White could still be alive in those Gene flash-forwards.
On a recent podcast, Odenkirk raised these questions to the producers: "Does he see a window to be a more full presence in the world and why would he see that? If the news of Walter White’s death reaches Gene, does that make him think, ‘I can come out from hiding?’"
Read Gould's comment below:
We haven’t defined that. We haven’t said how long Gene has been in Omaha. It’s an open question. It’s one that will have to be answered at some point — like a lot of these things.
It’s a good question.
Like you said, we don’t know yet. It’s a good question. Has it happened yet, has it not? As you say, Peter, we have not defined it.
