In another interview with Jim Halterman, Kevin Williamson spoiled about developing his supporting cast. He has a new love triangle planned focusing on Tyler, Caroline and Matt. For the many Jenna/Alaric fans he's also promised to give the 'almost super couple' the attention they deserve as well, bringing their romance to the front line.
"[With] Candice, I just kind of knew that this girl had it," he said. "I just knew if I could get to a second season that she would blow up. I knew I wanted to go this route with her. I wasn't sure I'd be able to pull it off or that the network would support it, but I wanted to turn her into a vampire."
He continued: "I knew it would open up the supporting character world and the dynamics. If you noticed last year, if you weren't in the know about the vampires you kind of got side-barred a little in terms of storyline so I needed the story to involve our secondary characters - by that I mean not our triangle - like Tyler. I knew Trevino and Candice would get a lot of focus this year."
Williamson also praised Trevino, saying: "He's really very skilled and he's got the goods. He just needs the material, so that's been fun this year to be able to give him more to do. As we move forward, you'll see a lot more Candice and Trevino and actually Zach Roerig [who plays Matt] pops in the middle and comes forward really quick."
Williamson added that he is already thinking of expanding the storylines for some of the other supporting cast members.
"Now Jenna [Sara Canning] and Alaric [Matt Davis] are on my radar," he said. "And I'm kick-starting them for the back nine to get their storyline up and running. There's just so much you can do with 42 and a half minutes."
