The New Mr. Gilbert

We’ve heard the name of Jonathan Gilbert tossed around on The Vampire Diaries, but now we’ve learned that Joe Knezevich has been very quietly cast as Elena and Jeremy’s ancestor. The man who started it all? We’ll see!

“The Vampire Diaries has made frequent references to Jonathan Gilbert, Elena and Jeremy’s direct-line ancestor and an author/investor in Mystic Falls back in 1864. With the news that more flashbacks are coming up, any word on will play Jonathan?” I checked into this for you, Heather, and the role went to Joe Knezevich, an actor from Atlanta (where ‘TVD’ hangs its fangs). Joe’s credits include ‘Drop Dead Diva’ and ‘The Librarian 3: The Curse of the Judas Chalice.’

His resume is limited and his name impossible to pronounce, but TVD hasn’t made a wrong step in casting yet, and as such we’re sure Mr. Knezevich is going to be nothing but the best in this  interesting role.

Thoughts? Where is TVD going to go, exactly, with this character?

Don’t know where they’re going with this character, but I hope we continue to get more back story through him and Guisseppe Salvatore. The flashbacks are big fun! I have seen Mr. Knezevich (pronounced kuh-NEHZ-uh-vich) on stage in an award winning Richard III. He has an amazing command of the stage and has had an extensive career in theatre, but I hope to see more of him on screen!

Thanks for the information, Mark! That’s interesting. The show certainly has a knack for casting their guest stars, and now I’m looking forward to his turn on TVD even more.
