If you don't want to get spoiled big time, we suggest you stop reading now...
If you're still here, let's get to the meaty details. The character who's RUMORED to get killed off is someone who's been with the show since the pilot. And he's no other than Chandler Riggs' Carl.
The speculation stems from various information shared by multiple sources obtained by TSDF. According to the sources, they believe Carl will die in the midseason finale which involves a huge battle in Alexandria with "multiple fires, explosions and gunfire."
No confirmation on when exactly Carl dies, but they believe it will unfold in the midseason finale. When we pick up for the second half, it is said that the first episode back will deal with the afternath of his death (episode 809).
As to how Carl dies is also uncertain, but sources told TSDF that he "struggles with someone and is possibly stabbed."

He’s ready to kill everybody, no matter what the group says, no matter what anybody says. He’s just like, ‘Nah, screw it. Everybody dies.’ He’s very focused on revenge.
AMC boss Josh Sapan addressed the future of the zombie drama's franchise (as a whole), saying that it could stay on air for years.
In a report from Deadline, Sapan said:
The use of the word ‘franchise,’ we don’t take lightly.
It’s not a sloppy or casual word. We’ve studied the best. Some have been around 30, 40, 50 years. We have a chance for a lot of life in the franchise.
