The Walking Dead has added two new comic-based characters on its slew of season 4 guest stars.

We learned via TV Line that Southland actor Michael Cudlitz has been tapped to play a pivotal comic book role. He will portray Sgt. Abraham Ford described as an Army man and sports coach.

He'll become Rick's right-hand man and an asset to the group's defense team.

In addition, THR has learned that Josh McDermitt (Retired at 35) has also been cast on the AMC smash.

McDermitt will play Eugene Porter, a former high school science teacher who crosses paths with Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the group.

Here are more details shared by the site:

In the Image/Skybound comics, Eugene is a former high school science teacher who first appears in the 53rd issue of the series. He travels with sports coach/Army Sgt. Abraham Ford (Cudlitz) and Rosita (new recurring player Christian Serratos).
The trio eventually crosses paths with Rick as they make their way to Washington.

However, unbeknown to Rick as well as eventual couple Abraham and Rosita, Eugene is lying when he claims to know what caused the zombie outbreak and instead is using the physically superior former sports coach to protect him.

The character remains alive in the comics and proves to be a key part of Rick's group, using his science know-how to manufacture ammunition.

'The Walking Dead' season 4 bows on Sunday, Oct. 13 on AMC.
