Update: CBS has renewed the show for season 6!
Alright you got me, I wasn’t talking about the handsome psychic anymore. If you’re a hardcore fan of the psychic drama, chances are you’re currently hell-bent on wishing that CBS won’t pull the plug on the show after season 5. So to ease your mounting anxiety, check out our early round-up prediction for The Mentalist below:
The Simon Baker starring series opened season 5 with an impressive 2.1 rating with adults 18-49, targeting 11.06 million total viewers. However, the psychic drama nosedived in week 2, it dipped a -24% on the same demo. Up until its last episode airing, The Mentalist is fluctuating from steady to below par.
On the Sunday primetime block of CBS, The Good Wife and The Mentalist air consecutively. Although the ratings of The Good Wife have also been unimpressive, the legal drama has been given a
more likely chance of being renewed. This was after the CBS network had announced the multi-platform syndication deal for the legal drama.
According to zap2it, the said syndication deal leaves ‘The Mentalist’ the only drama from CBS that can be predicted as ‘a toss up between renewal and cancellation’ by May 2013.
On the same report they further states that “If CBS keeps its drama hours the same as they were in Fall 2012, it will likely get renewed. But if CBS either expands its sitcom time, or adds Undercover Boss to the Fall 2013 schedule, it’s getting canceled.”
