'Supernatural' Season 8 Spoilers: Dean's "Purgatory Pal" Has Been Cast

Dean is gonna need some help getting out of Purgatory. Meet the guy who'll be his savior.

"Battlestar Gallactica's" Ty Olsson has been cast in the major recurring role of Benny, a dark and dangerous vampire who helps Dean escape from Purgatory a year after Sam gave up on finding his brother. And he won't just go on his merry way once they're free, according to Jensen Ackles:

"That character doesn't just go away. [He] will stick around and of course cause problems. Because Dean is indebted to this character for his exit, it makes the situation very volatile. That's how the onion gets peeled back, through this crazy relationship with this new character."

We'll see how Dean and Benny met through flashbacks as Benny complicates Dean's relationship with Sam in the present day.

But Benny is not the Big Bad for the season. There is, in fact, no Big Bad this year--there's a goal and villains new and old will be trying to reach it before our boys do.

Fans might recognize Olsson from the 2006 Supernatural episode "Bloodlust," in which he played a "good" vampire named Eli. Olsson makes his first appearance as Benny in the show's Season 8 premiere on October 3.
