Despite being a fan favorite, and despite his new role as a soul-powered God, Misha Collins will no longer be a regular on Supernatural in Season 7. Sera Gamble explained to TVLine that this is because the show’s focus has been and always will be on the boys, despite the writers’ feelings for Cas and his portrayer:
“When it comes to Supernatural, our philosophy is that everyone moves in and out and weaves in and out of the story, obviously with the exception of Sam and Dean. We love Misha. We love and adore the character of Castiel. His character developed to this extent and went in this unexpected direction because we were so inspired by him.”
Cas’s transformation will be explored next season, and there will be angel stories, but “they will probably be more self-enclosed,” reveals Gamble. Collins will be in the Season 7 premiere, but Gamble will not say how much he will be on the show beyond that, because it would give away too much about what happens in the premiere.
Supernatural fans, are you disappointed we won’t be seeing more of Collins next season? Any theories about what this means for Cas? Be sure to share your thoughts in the comments!
