131533_2082Shocking news, Revengers!

Revenge creator Mike Kelley is departing the show after two seasons. According to The Hollywood Reporter, who first broke the news, the show’s current executive producer Sunil Nayar is expected to take over season 3.

Here’s a statement from Mike Kelley:

“In a difficult mutual decision between myself and ABC studios, the end of my current contract will mark my final season as showrunner for Revenge.

Helming this series has been the ride of a lifetime, and my producing partner, Melissa Loy, and I will look back on our Revenge time with deep gratitude and respect for Emily [VanCamp] and Madeleine [Stowe] and the rest of the incredible cast, our heroic crew, the dedicated and imaginative producing and writing team, and the tireless post production department. I would also like to thank Paul Lee, his marketing team, and the creative executives at ABC and ABC studios for their profound support throughout this journey. I’m excited about finishing post production on the Season 2 finale, which I hope will stand among the best episodes of the series thus far. Continued success to all.”

Will you miss Mike Kelley and his convoluted The Initiative plot? Or do you think it’s time for Revenge to start fresh?

When Revenge started, it had the makings of a great story– betrayal, hate, love for a childhood sweetheart…but after a few episodes all of a sudden the main character was getting kicked and beaten to the ground. The second season episodes have been horrible! The initiative was a STUPID idea! The characters of Jack and Emily are so far from it’s original story it’s become depressing. Emily has wandered off immensely from getting revenge for her father, herself and Jack. And poor Nolan who had it all was stripped of everything: he’s lost his company, his girlfriend, and even his tech skills!!!!– I don’t understand why the Greyson’s keep winning and Emily keeps losing, it’s become an endless depressing story! Even worse, I don’t understand why Jack and Emily aren’t a love story anymore, they’ve become strangers! What happened to the instantaneous pull, the lightning bolt of hope for a reunion? It’s become pure depression!!!!!!!!!!!!!
