During the final scenes of the Private Practice season 3 finale, Addison (Kate Walsh) and Pete (Tim Daly) decide that Pete is better off trying to make it work with Violet (Amy Brenneman), in order to raise their son, Lucas, together. In the meantime, Addison runs into Sam’s (Taye Diggs) arms, with whom she had a fling with all season, but that didn’t go anywhere because Addison didn’t want to hurt Naomi (Audra McDonald). Now that Sam and Addison slept together in the finale, and have finally taken their first step, will they still be together when the show returns Thursday, September 23rd at 10/9c on ABC?
“In the new season, there’s a possibility of Sam and Addison. Obviously the sexual tension is still there. There are a lot of furtive glances, loaded looks and whispers, but I don’t think we’ve really figured out what’s happening yet.” says Diggs.
Walsh says that “It’s tense and it’s really odd. We come back and it’s not really dealt with, and then it is sort of dealt with in a way that, I think, is a delicious reveal. There’s tension and it’s like, why is there tension? What happened with these two? No one really knows until the very last scene.”
Any ideas on what that last scene might entail. Executive producer Shonda Rhimes says that “some fans will be happy and some fans won’t. Things take a little bit of a surprising turn in the first episode.”
Diggs would like to see Sam and Addison together in a real relationship because they are somewhat different. “Addison, in the past, has been a little more free, and Sam is a little more buttoned-up, so I’d love to see what that chemistry yields,” he says. As for how Naomi, Sam’s ex-wife and Addison’s best friend, McDonald says that she’ll be very busy with plenty of other things this season, including being a grandmother.
Pete is now taken as he’s getting married to Violet in the season premiere. Happy to see Sam and Addison together? Or should Addison be with someone other than Sam and Pete? Comment away!
