Joining the ranks of Tyler Blackburn (Caleb), the girl behind the girl who was behind "A" - Mona Vanderwaal - will most definitely be back next season. Straying not from the who but the what was in the Pretty Little Liars books, its TV counterpart gave us An answer and it was Mona - but decidedly didn't kill off Janel Parrish's character.
In fact, she's been upped from a recurring character to a series regular.
Janel Parrish, who plays Mona (aka the all-knowing "A," according to the Season 2 finale), has been upped from recurring status to a series regular for the third season.
This doesn't come as much of a surprise as executive producer Marlene King has said that the person behind "A" would have a larger role in the coming season, which begins airing at 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 5.
Of her promotion, Ms. Parrish herself gushes that it's "a dream come true. I'm so honored to be a part of such an amazing show". So, can Janel tell us anything about PLL's new direction story-wise, and Mona's role next season?
“Next season will focus more on people’s connections, finding out how Mona did things, and if people were helping her, who and why…. Allllll the pieces will come together.”
Janel also teases that she knows who the lady in red was at the end of "unmAsked". But of course she's not telling.
So it seems season 3 will bring us not only more of our main Liars but more of Mona and Caleb as well. And we've already heard that Brendan Robinson will be coming back around as Lucas next season. The
"A" plot thickens.
