It's been a question at the back of our minds ever since that flashback of Hanna (Ashley Benson), Mona (Janel Parrish), and the ouija board. Is Alison (Sasha Pieterse) really dead? Now that we have ingrained in our brains that image of the hand rising from the dirt at the end of the season 3 Halloween special, it's a theory that's maybe not starting to sound so crazy after all.
But was that scene a flashback or not? Pretty Little Liars executive producer, Oliver Goldstick says that yes, it was a flashback.
“I can definitely confirm that. We’re kind of upset about that one, to be honest. We always do the whoosh effect to make it look like a flashback, and it didn’t work on the dirt [in that scene]. This was never intended to confuse people. That is from the past and was never meant to be present-day Halloween. That [setting was] the gazebo’s perimeter.”
It definitely makes for quite a creepy notion when paired with the eerie ghost of a little girl that seemed as if to appear and disappear in Ashley Marin's house, although Oliver assures it was only meant as a homage to the books.
There is a hole in this theory though, Oliver had this to say about the body bag discovered at the end of the Ghost Train ride.
“I don’t think it needs to be a secret that those are Alison’s remains.”
So then, whose hand was that popping up out of the dirt in the flashback at the end of "This is a Dark Ride"? Discuss your theories!
