Once Upon A Time has taken Mr. Gold, Henry and Emma on an adventure to New York in search of Gold’s son, Bae. This Sunday’s episode, “Manhattan”, will not go smoothly for our wayward travelers. EP’s Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz spoil that this week’s hour will bring emotional turmoil, a can’t miss ‘showdown’ and stunning flashbacks that will send a ‘chill through your spine’.

“I would say that ‘Manhattan’ is going to be the showdown that everyone wants to [see],” says Kitsis, referring to Mr. Gold’s reunion with his son. Also, there are some amazing flashbacks that explain at least one major burning question (the “painful” backstory on Rumple’s limp) fans have had for a very long time, which will send a chill through your spine. Kitsis adds that Gold’s confrontation with his son won’t be the only emotional turmoil we should expect in this week’s hour. “Emma is going to be dealing with a lot of emotional baggage [in the next few episodes], I’ll say that. There are a lot of things she needs to get through.”

In addition, the synopsis for this week’s epic episode teases the previously spoiled seer casting and that “Rumplestiltskin realizes his destiny while fighting in the Ogre Wars.”

A seer shares with Rumplestiltskin a warning about his fate… but neglects to include some extremely pertinent details. What follows is a painful, painful (the “painful” being  the backstory on Rumple’s limp) lesson in, “Always ask follow-up questions!”

On Mr. Gold’s reunion with his son.

The details of how this reunion takes place were actually foretold long ago, as a flashback (as mentioned above) will reveal — and that’s not a good thing, at least for one series regular. Suffice it to say, do not miss the final 30 seconds of Sunday’s episode.

In related Once news, August will make a reappearance later this season, Horowitz reveals.

“We can’t wait for you to see the next phase of his story.” But the rest of the season won’t just be returns from favorite characters. Two words: —i- -o–.
