'Once Upon A Time' Spoiler Round-up: August's Backstory, Plus Mr. Gold Gets Complicated

I have a few spoiler bites to share about ABC's Once Upon A Time. A lot of fans are interested to know more about the mysterious stranger that rolled into Storybrooke a few episode back. August, played by Eion Bailey, has set his sites on Henry and Emma. EP Adam Horowitz promises some backstory answers about August sooner than you think, but revealed the book's author would be a mystery saved for season 2.

"What we saw August doing with putting the pages in the book is kind of the first step in pulling back the onion on who this guy is and what his agenda in Storybrooke is," executive producer Adam Horowitz teases.

Co-creators Eddie Kitsis and Adam Horowitz won’t quite come out and say Mr. Gold isn’t as bad a guy as we think, but did have plenty of spoilery, speculation provoking teasers to share.

“He’s a complicated man, [and how you view him] depends where you line up with his interests. [It’s always a question of] whether you’re in the way of that agenda or not.” Adds Horowitz: “There’s more to come this season” — in particular, in Episode 19 — “about him and his son and what happened there that may, hopefully, shed a little more light.” And yes, there is some light in him. “A lot of these characters have grey areas,” Kitsis reminds. “There’s some humanity in him.”

Kitsis goes on to spoil about the emerging motives that Regina and Mr. Gold will exhibit in the episodes to come, now that she knows Gold knows the truth about the curse.

"Their relationship is definitely going to change," Lest we forget, Rumplestiltskin did create the curse that the Evil Queen unleashed. "The question that I would ask is: Why would somebody create a curse that they didn't themselves employ and for what reason? That is a question we're going to answer this year," he says.
