As if New Girl couldn’t get any more “adork-able”, showrunner Liz Meriwether recently announced in an interview with Collider that none other than Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend’s Wedding) will soon be coming on the show:
“Dermot Mulroney is going to come on. That’s a new development that we’re excited about.”
Any guesses on the type of character he’ll be playing? (Is Jess’ dad too far out there? Or could his role in About Schmidt be some sort of clue??) The good news is that there’s going to be even more guest stars added to Zoe Deschanel’s quirky mix, and as far as the characters go, there’s plenty of storyline love to go around.
Check out the recent casting updates:
- Martin Starr (Party Down) as Dirk, a “friend from Nick’s law school days who’s going through a rough patch as he just broke off his engagement to his longtime girlfriend.” (According to E! Online, Starr’s episode will be the same one Mulroney makes his appearance.)
- Ryan Kwanten (True Blood) in the upcoming Valentine’s Day episode which, as told by Max Greenfield (Schmidt), is very good and very funny:
“It’s good. If New Girl can’t do a Valentine’s Day episode then we’re in trouble! I haven’t seen a cut of it but…I feel like it went really well.”
- While she’s actually in talks yet to guest star, Kristin Bell (Veronica Mars, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) has said in response to Max Greenfield’s “begging” (professional begging, of course) that she’d love to make a New Girl appearance!
“Sure!” she says when asked if she’ll come on the show. “It’s very flattering. I mean I’d have to check with Showtime, because there are contractual issues but I would definitely do it…. I think Max is one of the most charming people I have ever met!”
