Updated Spoilers! 3/13/13: In case you were a little confused about it ('cause TV gods know I sure was), Zooey Deschanel (Jess) told TV Guide that she and Jake Johnson's Nick are in fact on a date in episode 21, "First Date".
"Neither one of us wants to admit to being on a date," Zooey Deschanel tells us. "And then Russell, Dermot [Mulroney]'s character, is in the same restaurant."
Yay for Dermot, yay for date!
Updated! 3/5/13: The number for the episode has changed. "First Date" will actually be episode 21 of season 2.
Nick and Jess really aren't on a first date...but it sure seems like they are. Or aren't they?
You can read our exclusive early spoilers for season 2 episode 21 of New Girl, "First Date". Take from it what you will.
- When Nick takes Jess to a fancy restaurant, Jess goes out on a limb and point-blank asks him if it's a date - and when it turns out it isn't, who do Nick and Jess have to convince they're out on "not a date"? Jess' older, "Fancy Man" ex-boyfriend, Russell (Dermot Mulroney), who's on a date himself. Only thing is, Russell certainly seems to think they are. On a date, that is. In fact, he's just glad to see it "finally happening". Pft, took the words right out of our mouths, Dermot Mulroney.
- So how do Nick and Jess respond to that? By chasing Russell and his date, Brandy around until he gives them some answers as to what he "meant by that", naturally. But Nick and Jess will definitely end the night on an even more interesting note than that, when Russell comes to their rescue after Nick gets caught by a cop for jaywalking. ("Why isn't the crosswalk here? This is obviously where people want to cross!") Oh, Nick.
- And what happens when Schmidt and Winston try to sabotage said date? Hatch a plan to ruin it by recruiting Outside Dave to re-create one of Winston's bad dates, of course.
