E! Online's Watch with Kristin has the scoop on Colin Egglesfield's departure from Melrose Place!
Colin Egglesfield, who plays Auggie on the Melrose Place remake, has just been informed that he will be filming the last of his 10 episodes on Melrose Place next Monday -- despite having signed a multi-year contract as a series regular.
"They said it was a network decision, and they said the network thought Auggie was a little too dark, with his alcoholism. They felt like in the landscape of Melrose they wanted to change the tone of the show."
He goes to explain that the choice to write him out was to cause a shake-up that would hopefully provide much-needed CPR to Melrose Place's ratings.
On how his departure will play out...
"The way in which I'm leaving the show, I'm not being killed off, I'm just leaving. It keeps the door open for, potentially, my character to come back, but who knows?"
It sounds like there are rough times ahead for our Auggie.
He gets upset when Riley "feels like hanging out with me puts too much pressure on her relationship with Jonah." Things get worse when Auggie gets "in this fight with Marchello, the head chef, [my] boss" over something that happened at work. These two things are enough to push Auggie to his breaking point where he has to decide: to drink or not to drink.
As for his admirer, Violet, he says, "And, of course, Violet is in the mix. She always seems to creep up, you know, in all the different weird places—and she does that here, too."
