The top single on Leighton Meester’s forthcoming debut album, Someone to Love, appears to be proving the haters wrong, and network and label execs are mulling over how to use her hit series to promote the album.

The Gossip Girl star released the track, a duet with R&B singer Robin Thicke, the week of October 14th, and by week’s end it had racked up 7,000 digital purchases and 102 airings on Top 40 radio, according to Billboard.

From the article:

[Meester's label] Universal Republic and CW are also discussing how to promote Meester’s album on “Gossip Girl,” with short-term ideas ranging from a synch placement of “Somebody to Love” to an exclusive premiere of its music video. “We would be foolish not to utilize the show,” [a Universal Republic rep] says.

Meester’s been burning the candle at both ends, taping two feature films and Gossip Girl and finalizing her album, slated for release in late 2009/early 2010.
