It's amazing to think that Glee has slowly but surely become a strong phenomenon since its pilot way back when, and it's even more amazing to think that Glee has spawned 300 musical numbers. The cast and crew recently finished filming its magical 300th number, and it's another glorious mash-up - of Adele's "Rumor Has It" and "Someone Like You", by strong leading ladies Mercedes (Amber Riley) and Santana (Naya Rivera):
"Someone actually e-mailed me a video of Adele saying that she wanted me to sing her song, so I e-mailed it to Brad [Falchuk] and Ryan. So I think that's how we got 'Rumor Has It' and 'Someone Like You,'" Riley shares.
So what does the big Glee boss Ryan Murphy have to say about 300 musical performances?
"Yeah, Amber's been on that kick for literally about eight months," Murphy says. "Which is a wonderful thing, because I love to hear the cast have passion for music. Who do they love; why do they love it? So many of the songs that we've done on this show -- if we've done 300, I'd say 50 of them have come from me hanging out with the cast and them saying 'Oh I really want to do this, and this is how my character would do it' and then lo and behold, three months later I'll ... put it into the script."
The Adele mash-up (and I hear it's fantastic, by the way) will be featured in episode 6, "Mash Off", airing November 15.
In addition to more mash-ups, the one tribute episode of the season will be sneaking up on us soon - a big one that's been in the works for about two years now that we're expecting to see sometime in the spring. Any guesses on which artist we'll be paying tribute to this time around?
If that wasn't cool enough, there's even more song spoilers to set us off on Gleeky overload. Check out these upcoming musical performances to be featured:
