Someone Will Sing Their Swan Song

Is it just me, or has Glee gotten a bit…lazy with the plot lines since season 1? While it’s true the series has always been one for eccentricities and a showcase of oddballs, it’s never been a compromise between that and the storylines – or the characters. Which is kind of how I felt about Blaine in “Blame it on the Alcohol” (and I’m not the only one, either). And I fear this spoiler I recently found might be a repeat of lazy writing:

Seems the latest tip via Ausiello is that there’s going to be a character death, and right around Regionals to boot. Which of course is going to mess with New Directions’ heads, and that’s not a good thing before the big competition.

I highly doubt however that it’s going to be a major character death, and Entertainment Weekly has said along the same lines. Since it’s been hinted at before, the rumored consensus is that it just might be Dave Karofsky (well, we all know Mike O’Malley’s character Burt is safe). Would make sense to think so, wouldn’t it? Thoughts?

I’d say it’s between Karofsky and Kurt’s dad. I don’t know why, I just get the feeling that Bert’s a possibility.

i dont think it’s burt because it was just reported that he is coming back next season..that would stink if it was Karofsky..even if he is a jerk he still is a kid on the show..i was thinking it may be Dr Carl..Emma would be free and Dr Carl is expendable

  • Pamela

I think it’s Pavarotti, the bird, in a metaphor to show that Kurt is through with his gilded cage at Dalton. He’s coming home to McKinley.

  • creaturefear

Seriously, if it’s Dave I will go balistic. I will actually cry.. I love him. (KURTOFSKY forever) Besides, his story is not over. We practically know nothing about him, nothing has been resolved.

  • Defygravity91986

If they kill off Karofsky, I will punch a baby.

  • Pamela

Ryan Murphy made a big speech about how he wanted the bullying storyline to have some sort of happy/safe/good/meaningful/NOT depressing conclusion so the concept that Karofsky would somehow die, by either his own hand or by another’s, is just preposterous (unless Murphy was lying through his teeth). Mike O’Malley (Burt) is signed on to at least 6 episodes next season & was nominated for an Emmy last year; in no universe would ANY producer kill him off (especially as he is the wondrous father of the Emmy nominated, Golden Globe winning, SAG Best Actor nominated (NOT Best Supporting) Kurt, played by Chris Colfer).

I still think Pavarotti is the best guess (which would explain the cheesy headline ‘Someone Sings Their Swan Song’ – ha, ha, ha). The absolute worst case scenario, and I honestly don’t see Glee going this dark, would be if somehow Carl Howell (Emma’s Carl) was to die in a freak accident because Glee hasn’t signed John Stamos on for a third season and Emma & Carl’s marriage is so happy, there is no good way to get her back into the arms of Will.

But, truly, it’s going to be the bird. The poor little precious bird that has carried on the Warbler name since 1891. Kurt’s in a bit of trouble, I imagine…

just seen a video about darren criss going on tour with the caste, and was asked ’bout being a regular, ‘even if blaine get hit by a bus in like two episodes…’ just hope it was joke, because if not i’m gonna be rally pissed.

  • Michaela

swan song? sounds like a bird.. hmm.. is Ryan trying to hint us at something..?
okay it cant be burt, because he is in future episodes next season..
and there was info about will and emma… so carl could be a victim..
If blaine left.. i would CRY and CRY and CRY :(
I really dont think they would kill dave.. i mean he is just a kid. and even though he is an ass.. i mean he does have a.. heart he is just confused about himself, and finding out who he really is.

Just to be a joykill (and because I thought of this earlier this evening & then couldn’t get it out of my head), what if the producers decided to kill off Carol, in order to give Finn (Cory Monteith) the drama he’s been asking for, making Burt a widow (again) & killing off Kurt’s second mother? That would certainly ‘mess with NDs heads’, that would give Glee their excuse to bring on Anne Hathaway as Kurt’s Aunt (for the funeral), that would explain why Kurt would leave Dalton in the middle of the semester & transfer back to McKinley, whether or not the Karofsky situation has been resolved, because he would want to be by his brother’s side during this tragedy, & certainly he would want to be by his father’s side because of their (shared) grief, and that would give Glee what it loves best: Kurt emoting & crying because his life is once again turned upside down. This would even make all of Finn’s recent hateful behavior pale in comparison, & people would eventually forget that he spent a few months treating Rachel & Sam & the Glee club in general like a total douche.

    I hope I just have a vivid imagination…

By the by, Darren Criss is pulling in millions upon millions of dollars for Glee, so no matter how badly the writers treat this character (by this point, I no longer want Kurt to date this dingbat) there is no way in hell that Glee is letting go of Criss voluntarily.

I’ll just cross my fingers & hope that the writers are planning on killing off an innocent bird (that never hurt a living soul…)

  • Vegan Hothead

My guess: Terry. We’ve seen her maybe twice this season and she hasn’t had a lot to do. Even though she and Will are divorced her dying would shake him up a lot.

  • anonymous

its the dalton warblers bird pavarotti

  • rentAgleek

i think it could be shelby cos then jesse and rachel would meet up again at her funeral. and as rachel is boyfriend-less atm then her and jesse could get back together.

  • Gabrielle_3of6

I hope they don’t kill off Carol Hudson. Poor Finn has already lost his father, Burt’s already lost a wife, and Kurt a mother.

Other possiblities: Rachel’s fathers. An accident on their cruise? Shelby? Beth? One or both of Quinn’s parents? Wasn’t an older sister of Brittany supposed to show up? Any namless student dying in the halls of WMHS would be able to shake the charaters.

  • Pamela

OK – I would never be able to watch Glee again (which would be a tragedy) if they casually killed off a baby!! They would never kill off little Beth (don’t even think it…)

I think general agreement is that it’s Pavarotti – anyone else is just too sad and depressing. Yes, it’s terrible that Kurt will lose his pet (his metaphorical voice) which (hopefully) sends him right back to McKinley as fast as is humanly possible because if I see just ONE MORE group song without Kurt, I will just cry…

Does anyone else realize that Glee is releasing an album without one song that contains Chris Colfer? That’s a crime!

Kill the canary – bring Kurt home – and perhaps Finn, Puck, and Sam can beat up Karofsky and put him out of commission for the rest of the year so Kurt doesn’t have to deal with that psycho bully/possible rapist.

Then, like Rachel said, Kurt can be a big part of the reason ND wins at Nationals!

  • Mel251987

I think it may be the paralyzed kid from the first season. He was Fin’s friend and Rachel went and visited him for singing lessons every week, while they haven’t had him back in the show they left that story line opened. This would put Fin and Rachel back together.

    What if they kill Becky?

  • Meganders22

i think who ever dies will possibly be a either a main character or character that we always see, but take for granted, like Becky (i seriously hope its not Becky though) because this death makes an impact on Regionals so it has to be someone the group cares for or one of the other groups.

i was actually thinking that who ever dies is probably the person who writes the original songs that are sung during the show but New Directions, but who that is completely unknown.

  • Gabrielle_3of6

I don’t know about anyone else, but when I was in high school and this boy killed himself in the bathroom at the lake it effected the WHOLE school. I didn’t know the boy, I had never talked to him. The bathroom that it happened in was miles away and it didn’t even happen during school times. But everyone was in shock for weeks afterwards.

At another school, a girl was ran over and killed by a bus before class. I didn’t know her by name they had to tell me that she did her make up a certain way before I realized exactly who she was. The whole school went to her funeral.

It doesn’t really matter WHO it is for the ND’s to get affected. Any one who is a teen feels invincible. To have anyone that is their age die in any way will affect them all one way or another. It’s a slap in the face and tells you ‘Hey… You’re human. That could have been you too.’

  • Tea And A Cheshire Smile

Wouldn’t necessarily do much to the rest of the new directions though, although I suppose they might be distracted trying to comfort Will

  • Tea And A Cheshire Smile

xD I doubt it… but I’d love to believe that. Really. I miss Jesse… even if he was cruel and a jerk at the end.

  • Succah12

I hope that the reason Kurt has to transfer back to McKinley is that
Carol, his stepmother, becomes pregnant and Burt can no longer afford the
tuition with a new baby. I don’t think that Glee deals with depressing
topics like death very well so I hope that it is the canary who dies.
On the other hand, I think John Stamos’ contract expired so maybe it is him.
I do agree with you about Blaine– he seems to be too much of a mess
for Kurt at this point. Maybe things will change after regionals and Blaine with get together with Kurt as a consolation for losing.

  • krystalmaze

    WTF
    seriously, ‘pyscho bully/possible rapist’
yeah i get that Karofsky is an asshole to Kurt, but I can’t help but feel he’s Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein i.e. MADE BY SOCIETY to be what he is, to hate himself and effectively hate Kurt as well.
Good for you, no one has possible ever told you to hate every f-ing thing about yourself.
Well Karofsky probably has, hell all of society is telling him that being gay is wrong and being a jock gay is even worse. He is not what people envison when we think ‘Gay Man’, Kurt is the gay stereotype, but ironically he, Karofsky, is the average gay man which we don’t see and sadly dont really accept.
By saying stupid things like ‘pyscho bully/possible rapist’ you are just creating the monster that he is.

    KAROFSKY DEFEANTLY SUICIDE

  • Asdf

    santana?

  • Beck

I was thinking maybe Santana – she either commits suicide or gets in a drunk driving accident or something because she’s so distraught about coming out and being turned down by Britney.

  • Lacy527

I say if it’s going to be anyone – make it be that creepy Jacob kid. The producers already mentioned that they realized his character was a little overboard. Just do away with the character all together. He and Lauren seemed to be friends – so that would shake them up.

  • alejo

After watched “Sexy” I´m thinking Santana will be the one. i hate the idea but seems a lot more logic that they kill Karosky or the bird….. just saying.

  • Lucichen

Question: Any clues about the big Glee death at Regionals? —Cindy
Ausiello: I never said the death was big — I said the fallout was. And the only other clue you’re getting is the gender of the victim: male.

Look at this. No Santana. I think it’s going to be that bird. It’s logical. And Kurt will be back!

  • V2113

    And what about the baby!!??!!

(Yeah, i know the episode’s already aired and we know it’s pavarotti, but STILL, people, you forgot about Beth!)

  • V2113

Well, I agree with both of you… sort of. I admit, Karofsky’s getting a bad rap. He’s probably got a homophobic parent, maybe both are, we don’t know! I feel horrible for him, and I really hope he ends up feeling comfortable enough to come out eventually and apologize to Kurt.

That said, what he should be apologizing for is that he was acting like a psycho bully/possible rapist towards Kurt, and I really wouldn’t have been totally surprised if Finn, Puck, or one of the others ended up having to save Kurt from an even worse situation than usual. While I realize I’ve been watching a tad too much Law and Order: SVU, I’m still very thankful that Kurt got out of there. Even Sue was worried!

But, I fully believe that Karofsky will make a turnaround. You know there’s actually studies that say a large percent of homophobe’s are actually homosexual? I kinda figured Karofsky would have fit into that from the start…

Conclusion to this long-winded reply: Karofsky’s being a psycho, but we can’t really get quite as pissed at him as we could for a straight homophobic bully. He’s lashing out because he’s scared. But don’t people who are scared do more damage?

  • V2113

Ha, the death isn’t big! And it’s a teeny little bird… Am I cruel for finding that subtle hint – that probably wasn’t even a hint – hysterical?
