Sam as in Chord Overstreet Sam (not Glee Project Sam Larsen Sam).
Season 4 of Glee will be split between New Directions and Lima, Ohio (and possibly other locations), but so far we’ve been inundated with spoilers about all our graduates. Not that we don’t love “new sexy Rachel” and endearing Kurt running off to New York to pursue his dream and all…we just want to know what to expect from some of our favorites (and soon-to-be new favorites) back in McKinley’s choir room. What we do know is that New Directions will be top dogs instead of underdogs at McKinley for once – even to the point of everybody and his brother deciding to sign up to audition. Yikes!
So naturally, New Directions needs some new leadership here. E! Online spoiled that there will definitely be a “new leader of New Directions”, but of course they’re not spoiling who.
“…we will get a new leader of New Directions, who will take over the spotlight at McKinley. Brittany, Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) and Blaine are all top contenders, but a newbie might swoop in to yank the leader role away.”
Will it be newcomer Marley Rose (Melissa Benoist), who’s rumored to be “the new Rachel”…or could a veteran more like Sam (Chord Overstreet) be the one to be the Trouty-mouthed “big fish” for once?
Michael Ausiello of TVLine tells us a little bit about Sam in season 4:
Trouty Mouth is going to be quite the big fish in Season 4. In addition to getting a mysterious new love interest (guesses!?), Chord Overstreet’s senior will play a much more vital role in New Directions. “Toward the end of last season we got how to write for [Chord] and [who] the Sam character was,” notes exec producer Brad Falchuk. “And he really stepped up. It’s nice having him be, in terms of the guys there in the choir room, the male lead right now. He’s definitely carrying the weight that he needs to carry there, in a way that was very different than Cory [Monteith] or Mark [Salling]. He has a very specific innocence to him.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, apparently there’s going to be a choir room smack down of sorts (woo!).
“There’s a battle over who will be the new Rachel between Brittany (Heather Morris), Blaine (Darren Criss), Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) and Sam (Chord Overstreet) that includes the newest member of New Directions: Wade “Unique” Adams. How it’s determined will include a certain song of summer. The judge? Here’s a hint: He’s a former director.”
In addition to Marley (Benoist) and Unique (The Glee Project‘s Alex Newell), we have a couple other newbies in New Directions: Kitty (Becca Tobin) and little half-bro to Puck, Jake Puckerman (Jacob Artist) – and we’re told these newbies will impress us. Even though Jake Puckerman will have a tad bit of that Puck attitude we remember all too well, according to actor Jacob Artist:
“He definitely is a Puckerman in the sense that he has an attitude problem and we’ll see that it gets in the way of his journey with the glee club. And he’s guarded, he has his walls up, he’s a heartbreaker. He’s a fun guy to play for sure.”
What do you think, will it be a New Directions newbie or a choir room vet to take over Will Schuester’s glee club?
