Glee Summer Concert Tour Gets Theatrical Release

Glee Summer Concert Tour Gets Theatrical Release

I got all excited because at first I thought it was an actual Glee movie being released. But a concert movie in 3D is still way, way cool.

Being the hit that last year's concert tour was, Glee decided to take it to the stage this summer once again (this time with Darren Criss/Blaine joining the ranks) with their concert tour - but they're also stepping it up a notch. This summer's Glee concert tour, running from May until June, will hit the big screen in 3D this August. And of course us Gleeks don't really need a reason why, but showrunner Ryan Murphy elaborated anyway:

“This tour was all about going out and performing for our amazing fans who have supported our show from the beginning, but due to the limited time we had to travel during our hiatus, there were only so many cities we could get to before we had to resume work on the television series. We knew that not every fan who wanted to attend a concert would get that opportunity. Now, thanks to our friends at Twentieth Century Fox Film, we’ll be able to bring the concert experience to movie theaters across the country in full three dimensional glory. We promise every passionate ‘Gleek’ a cinematic experience that will have them singing and dancing in the aisles.”

But make sure you stay on your toes and get your tickets because the release will be limited to just two weeks after its August 12 release date. And who knows? Maybe this will pave the way for a full-length Glee feature film down the road.
