Glee Recurring Characters: Win Some, Lose Some

by Tanya on July 28, 2010

Got some news on the recurring roles for a change (what…?! No more guest stars??), and it seems Ryan Murphy and co. have found that Vocal Adrenaline coach replacement for Idina Menzel’s Shelby Corcoran in 30 Rock’s Cheyenne Jackson. Also joining the cast will be Chord Overstreet:

Actor and musician Chord Overstreet has landed the recurring role of Sam, a McKinley High jock who starts off as Finn’s protégé but slowly becomes his competition.

But while we’re getting some new cast members, looks like we’ll also be losing one – Patrick Gallagher as the football coach, Ken Tanaka:

Earlier, I announced that the Fox musical comedy would be introducing actress Dot Jones as William McKinley High’s new football coach, Shannon Beiste. Now I can tell you that she will not be assisting Coach Tanaka, but replacing him. As he has not been written into the show’s first few episodes, it appears that Tanaka ran his course after failing in his attempt to marry Emma.

Let’s have some shout-outs to everybody’s favorite football coach, Ken Tanaka (and the awesome Patrick Gallagher!)…and a discussion on the new additions, in the comments.

@Izzy Yep, Dianna Agron is still part of the main cast as Quinn. I wouldn’t worry too much about the core main characters, and some of the recurring too (like Matt and Mike). ;)
