A fifth prequel of Game of Thrones is now in the works.
The latest addition to the follow-up series of the HBO smash is being created by co-executive producer Bryan Cogman, who has been writing for the show since its first season. Also involved in the project is author George R.R. Martin, who released a statement about Cogman's addition on his blog.
I can say that, like the other pilots, it will be a prequel rather than sequel, a successor rather than a spinoff.
Bryan's series will be an adaptation, and one that will thrill most fans of the books, I think, set during a very exciting period of Westerosi history. And I'll be working with him every step of the way; we're going to be co-creating the show.
As per usual, details surrounding the story of the fifth prequel are still unknown. Previously, HBO boss Casey Bloys said that there's no plan to release all prequels in development, but they intend to greenlight the one script that stands out.
Game of Thrones will premiere its final season in either 2018 or 2019.
