Fringe: Anna Torv Wants Series to End after Season 5

2 years ago, by

October 20, 2011

Leading actor John Noble said it already before and his fellow actress Anna Torv now shares his standpoint, too. FOX’s Fringe should conclude after its fifth season. “People have been quoting [series co-creator] JJ [Abrams] for a while saying [that] four or five years is kind of enough,” Torv told the Coventry Telegraph according to DigitalSpy. “I tend to agree with him.”

The actress fears the series otherwise could “run into the ground”. It would be another matter if Fringe was a procedural series. “If you’re doing a straight-up procedural series, I think you can go on, because you’ve got so many stand-alone episodes,” she explained. “Whereas with our show it certainly feels like it’s picked up the pace as well.”

But a season 5 renewal is still a long way off. It’s anything but easy for Fringe to convince in its current Friday night time slot. To date, season 4 averaged 3.24 million viewers and a 1.3/4 in adults 18-49. It’s surely an improvement over former Friday 9pm occupant The Good Guys but these numbers are still too weak for an expensive to produce science-fiction series.

What do you think? Do you want a conclusion after season 5 or do you want the series to end at a later date?

They better not cancel it! Its my ALL TIME FAVORITE SHOW! Im so sick of them cancelling all the best shows! Stop moving things around and play some damn reruns so new people can understand whats going on.. Then your ratings will go back up.

  • Sls_12

They defiantly do not need to cancel its a good show and its interestin

  • Fischnet52

This is one of our most favored shows!  We’re retired and 59 and NEVER miss it!  Please keep it up!

  • savagebeauty

Fox has done little to no promotion of Fringe and its time slot stinks. The show has amazing writing and the actors are phenomenal. Too bad Fox has to screw this up by not playing up to its potential. I definitely do not want it to end, the story feels incomplete.

Fringe is the bomb they better not cancel it I’m addicted to it bad

  • Eesha

DONT CANCEL !!! you hear me?

  • http://twitter.com/crusherpsa Paul Stevens

none of the good sci fi shows go on long enough – i really believe i could watch fringe for 10+ seasons

  • Eesha

i an watch for 100+ seasons.. :) god! how i love fringe. i ve never loved a show like this before. hope it gets at least 10 seasons :) more would be nice…

  • Daniel

Yeah, I love Fringe and would like it to end strong. I think 4 or 5 seasons would be about right. American shows tend to go on too long (Frasier, ER, Simpsons, etc etc). You end up with something that was a shadow of what you fell in love with.

I’d rather have a strong, engaging 4 or 5 seasons to love for years to come.

  • http://www.facebook.com/fox.kevin Kevin Fox

I’ll watch Fringe until there is no more.  Let it go on forever.  I won’t mind one bit!

  • albertoknox

Some shows do lose their edge, but Frasier wasn’t one of them IMHO.

Back on topic, I would love Fringe to go to 5 seasons as long as they finish off the story. DON’T let it continue the main story in books, comics, 2nd rate animated series or whatever, that is just lame.

  • Lucia Son27

In my opinion, Fringe saved Fox. They had the worst shows for a long time until Fringe came on. Why let go of such a great show??

  • holger

they should do it like they did it with lost – just confirm a fifth or sixth season, or at least the end after season 4 early enough so the writers can give us a satisfiying ending. i bet fringe whould do a way better job than lost did with this possibility.

  • KenJ

Fringe is my favorite show of the post Star Trek era. I am going to Comic Con 2012 specifically to see the cast. It does have to come to a logical conclusion eventually. I will feel fortunate to see a 5th  season.

  • Chris

There was nothing wrong with the ending of LOST. People who hated the ending just didnt get it. It was all about the people. Not the 50 million questions that if answered will bring up another 50 million questrions….

  • Chris

Those shows started years ago though and if done right they can easy have 10-15 seasons.. Now it seems everyone wants to see Celebrity dancing, how many housewives we can have and people doing stupid shit…..

  • Chris

like Jericho? That would be CBS’s falt

if Fox does cancel it, then another network should pick it up. ABCor NBC anyone?

  • Chris

CBS is known to cancel shows so they wont be good.

    Torv is right.

The X-Files kept going even after it was out of steam.

    Bad call.

Better to end it while you’re still on top.

  • Amber-louise-

LOST was a great show and it deserves alot of credit :)

  • Mr10398

I don’t understand these tv people. You have your fan base, isn’t that enough? If you want more viewers, move it to a better time slot. Either way, I will watch it or DVR it..I got hooked on it late, and caught up with it via dvd. It is possible to get more viewers.

  • Emilywilliams93

Great show :) Please keep it running!!

  • Kassie

They are killing it by putting it in the Friday death slot.  Bring it back to Thursday or Wednesday,  I have seen the “Death Slot” kill some shows that should have had some chance. But end after season 5 I think no but I believe in odd numbers.  I think the 7th would be perfect…

  • Jucbx

Fringe is an excellent show…cancelling it would be an obvious blunder…but one that would not surprise me.

  • glenz

I never want Fringe to end.

  • RIghtly Divided

Fringe needs at least one more season (5) to tie up all the loose ends, clear up all the questions and explain the inexplicable

  • Jim B

I think 8 seasons would be great. They’ll probably cancel it though killing yet another great show. Tragic really and it’s the fans that lose out.

  • Xbo07

it was great, ending was not great though…but then again thats the point the journey was the important part.

  • Max

We need at least 6 seasons to have a well written closure

  • StoryFanForever

I didn’t start watching the show until last year, right after season 3 ended. I’d been told it was fantastic and that I’d have to be patient early on. I’d been told right. After the shaky first half of the first season it took off like a shot, becoming one of the most intelligent, poignant and all-round terrific character-driven dramas ever. I flew through the first 3 seasons via Netflix, caught up with the beginning of season 4 via iTunes and am currently watching it live.

Fringe has a huge fan base. Sadly, they don’t all have Nielsen boxes. Shouldn’t these things be as standard as V-chips now? You’d think.

A fifth season is really all that’s needed to wrap things up. Mr. X seems to be on the horizon and all that’s really keeping me wondering beyond the particulars of our immediate situation (Olivia’s impending “death” and Peter’s predicament) are:

    1. Why don’t Olivia & Peter remember meeting each other in 1985?

    2. How can they fix what’s been done to the universe without the Bridge?

We need these answers. Season 5 shall bring them… Please?

fringe is fantastic!!! the show should keep running as long as possible at least to a season 6. (at the very least) .

  • Snigern

I CAN’T HAVE A FUTURE WITHOUT FRINGE ! It has to go on… Maybe with a John Scott coming back !!! FRINGE <3

  • Nyminute38

Yes, I agree. Six seasons would do this great sci fi series justice, but I would be happy if it just ended after 5 seasons. Some times a great show can get run down, if a great show overstays it welcome like The X files which should have ended after season 6 or 8. Plus, Fringe can use a better time slot. Most people go out on Friday nites or working weekend nights like myself.

I cant wait to hear that Fringe is renewed for season 5. I’ve been checking almost everyday!

  • Ryan

I agree wholeheartedly. Fox is a joke of a channel along with much of basic cable nowadays.

As a devout Fringe follower, I would like to see everything tied up in 5 seasons. It’s so easy for sci-fi to go off the rails (X-Files, Lost). I would prefer a recognizable conclusion, rather than the feeling that they’re making it up as they go.

  • Lex

They just need to end it well and it could in theory end at any time and leave fans satisfied. It really depends how season 4 ends. And who knows, it could come back in some other format.

Fringe is my all time favourite show and would love for it to continue but it is so hard for a new watcher to pick it up I pray for a 5th season but that most certainly will be the last.

  • Jlegg2106

Fringe is an awesome show and by far my favorite show on tv i hope that it will go on for many more season. Fox would be stupid to cancel it

  • Christa Schmidt

5 seasons is a beautiful mark and that includes the fact that they then also have made 110 episodes!!! This would be a well derserved compliment for a show that is so different then all the other shows that are on TV!!

  • Vix

At least 5 Seasons! Ending with season 4 will have toooo many loose ends! This is a fantastic show! One of my favorites! There aren’t many shows anymore than really mess with your head, and this is one! We need more shows that make us think!

  • Rinu

At least a fifth season to wrap everything up! This is the best tv show I’ve ever watched. There’s so much creativity and imagination. The actors are great and the story lines are always so enticing.

  • Scotto

This is by far my favorite show on television… PERIOD!! End of story! But despite how much I love this show’s story, choice of actors, topics, and the way it pans out, I whole heartedly agree with Anna Torv and John Noble. The show should put up the stop sign at the end of a fifth season for the same reason Anna stressed. And if this fourth season is their last, I have great belief that the show’s creators and actors can give us the best finale any show has ever made in the history of television!!!

  • Skye

Personally I think, Fringe is an awesome show, dealing with Quantum Physics, Everyone I know watches it, and the thing about Quantum physics, is it is the Science of possibility, meaning Anything is possible. They could do absolutely anything on the show and it could be accurate, so they could make the show go on forever if they wanted to. And I could guarentee I will watch it till the end.

  • mj2

i started watching FOX channel, when it aired Fringe. I got hooked on it late same with Mr10398, and caught up with it via dvd too. this show is awesome and I don’t mind having its 10th season. Come on FOX, the timeslot is bad, what do you expect! But to be honest the past 4 episodes recently of Fringe is getting better for me.

  • LothicKirril

If the writers think they can do justice to making season 5 a final season then by all means they should go for it. Obviously the actors are getting to the stage where THEY probably want to move on & would we really want a show where their either phoning it in, or they just outright leave. Fringe without Walter or Olivia (the two who have expressed their feelings on the show stopping)? Not  a show I’d be all that invested in. I LOVE this show, but too many others have died mid-season or between seasons with no closure of any sort. Please, tie it all up, the universes saved, Walter vindicated, & Olivia & Peter happily together. Better the writers & cast making the call to end it than some beancounter at Fox who knows (& cares) nothing about the show beyond it’s revenue return.
Fox hs a reputation for killing these shows off. Maybe a successful conclusion, & therefore better dvd boxset returns might get them to allow future shows a chance to at least produce a final season wth some warning. A completed series (BSG or STnG) I like to buy on disc to re-watch, but where’s the point in buying a show which you already KNOW will just peter out mid run? Give that a thought Mr. Accountant.

  • Lscarmody1803

Later date please the possibilies are exciting. Best thing on tv to watch except supernatural. Lisa and steve

  • Jolauren

I agree, there isn’t much on that I really enjoy, and fringe has a unique enjoyable perspective on the weird and wonderful world of science. I love that it’s not the same old story, run of the mill sci-fi and I (and I am sure many others) want a satisfactory end to the show.. I say six to seven seasons no more, no less. It’s all you need for a well developed enjoyable sci-fi. Who wants to invest time in a show only for a last minute wrap up (leaveing far to many unanswered questions). I am in Australia, what happens to our fanbase here?

  • Emma-aka-fringefan!

It’s not complicated.. the show still has thousands of possibilities, if the producers are having problems thinking of storylines why not hold a competition for the fans to partake in? secondly, moving it to a different day would sort out the number of viewers easily. Thirdly, one of the only decent science fiction shows around is getting shown on FOX  – this may be their only redeeming quality as a channel they need to use this to their advantage!!!

  • Hamiltonmike999

fox better not screw us again…

  • Keysfacebook

NNNNOOOOOOOOO!!!!  Fringe must go on!  If they run out of material,  ask the fans for some ideas…  DUH!  We live for Fringe, it’s the only show we follow.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Matt-Feiler/519535337 Matt Feiler

Fringe is a great show and 5 seasons is good. I just hope they do pick it up for a 5th season so the fans can get a good ending to the series. Fifefly is still the best show that never made it and it’s all because of the geniuses over at Fox not knowing how to run programming. It’s shocking to me that Fox’s programming and marketing can be so bad and FX can be so good.

  • Globalkiller1

Maybe some of the people who make those plans should try and live overseas for awhile like us in the military. When a show like Fringe comes along we can’t live without it. I know I know but the TV shows over here are nothing but re-runs of american shows or something close to nothing. 5 seasons with a good closure would work well. Thanks for the great show in any case

  • Stanton69

Yes, please RENEW Fringe for another season.  I love this show and tell everyone about it.

  • Stanton69

I also caught up with it on DVD and want More

  • Dperry90

I would really like to see a season 5. Fringe is my favorite.

  • Sharonsroka21

They cnt cancel fringe after season 5 it has to go on after that.!!

  • Dewayne06

Fringe has brought me back to watching TV!  It’s an excellent show that should continue at least 8 seasons…definitely not ready to see it end.  Having enjoyed TV this much since Jack Bauer (24)!

  • Dave

In my opinion Fringe is the next best show after Lost and I enjoyed watching Lost but I think Fringe should finish after Season 5 on a better ending than Lost or they should finish on a 2 hour TV Movie!

  • Korey Kelly

Fringe is my second favorite show of all time. (besides LOST of course) I do not want them to cancel Fringe at all it would be the end of the world. Fox has Fringe and that’s it.

Personally, I love Fringe and don’t want it to ever end.  As long as they have good creative writers, I can’t understand why the show would “run into the ground”.  They have so many topics yet to explore.  I despise hearing about viewership… how do they really know how many of us are watching?  There are so many resources for watching shows, they can’t possibly calculate how many folks are watching.

I am more worried about it ending after four seasons! That would be bad… Five would be fine if they had sufficient warning that it was the last season.
