While watching last night’s new Cougar Town, I couldn’t help but think how nice it is to finally see an onscreen marriage work in a comedy series. Of course I mean Ian Gomez and Christa Miller’s character couple, Andy and Ellie Torres.

Just when you thought they’d made all the Snuggie parodies. Watch it, I dare you. You’ll end up laughing. And wondering if guys and girls can actually be (insert air quotes), “friends”.

Can women and men be friends. Ring a bell? I don’t know about you, but a little story called, When Harry Met Sally comes to mind. Only this time Sally’s a cougar, and Harry very well could be strumming his guitar again. Okay, so maybe that’s exaggerated. Just a little bit.

“It’s funny how Cougar Town started as a show about a woman dating a younger man, and now it’s kind of turning into an ensemble show about a bunch of friends and their misadventures.”

So…Travis is looking for a little night out on the town for his Valentine’s Day party. And even though Jules had her little talk with Bobby about good-guy/bad-guy parenting, he’s not willing to let that come between the camaraderie he and Travis have going on. That’s because in Bobby’s mind, this is good parenting!

So we know Grayson’s negative view of Valentine’s Day. But just how negative is it? “It’s a fake holiday. Created by candy companies to prey on sad and lonely women.” So who’s the lucky lonely woman tonight? Apparently Jules, as she opts to spend this “fake” holiday with Grayson, as “just friends”.

No, it’s not Jules. Or Laurie. Although at first I thought the latter would be cute, except now I can’t get the image of Laurie and Travis hiding together in Dale’s closet out of my head. Now there’s an idea: Cougar Laurie!
