"The lava episode,” as Joel McHale revealed in spoilers to TV Line, took eight days to shoot and finds the Greendale gang surviving in a world where “the entire ground is lava and no one can touch it… It reminded me of Mad Max.”
The episode also sets up the departure of Donald Glover's Troy. Jim Rash explained that the half hour reminded him of other classic Communitys: “Abed wants to give the most appropriate goodbye to Troy, so it’s clearly out of his brain. It almost feels like the [paintball episodes], where they understood the prize to be one thing, but then it becomes a disaster.”
Danny Pudi added that the antics will have an extreme effect on Abed in particular: “The episode reveals that perhaps Abed is more affected by the disaster movie than everyone else. He unravels a little bit.”
No word yet on when the lava episode will air. But be sure to watch Community live on Thursdays at 8 pm on NBC.
