Casting Bits: 'The Resident' cast Merrin Dungey; Christopher Meyer joins 'The Affair' and more

Casting news alert! Here are the latest additions to new and returning shows we're covering on our site: 

The Resident (FOX)

Merrin Dungey (Big Little Lies) has joined the upcoming medical drama as a series regular. She replaced Morian Atias (Tyrant) who was originally cast for the role of the hospital’s tough and pragmatic CEO Claire Thorpe. 

Designated Survivor (ABC)

Natasha McElhone will depart the political series later this season. The actress, who plays Alex Kirkman, is set to star on a new project titled “The First” opposite Sean Penn. 

 


Homeland (Showtime)

Dylan Baker (The Good Wife) and Courtney Grosbeck (Parenthood) have boarded season 7 of the spy drama. 

Dylan Baker has joined the Showtime drama as Sen. Sam Paley, a maverick politician from the Southwest who is leading an aggressive investigation into the Keane administration.

 Grosbeck will play Josie, Carrie’s (Danes) youngest niece. Politically conscious and staunchly anti-Keane, Josie is the kind of teenager who protests the administration on weekends. 

The Affair (Showtime)

Christopher Meyer (The Fosters) has boarded the upcoming fourth season in a key role.

Meyer will play Anton Gatewood, a defiant but brilliant high school student of Noah (West). Caught between his parents’ expectations, Anton struggles to find his own sense of self amid episodes of self-sabotage and doubt. 


Code Black (CBS)

Emily Alyn Lind (Revenge), who plays Ariel Braeden, has been promoted to series regular in the medical drama’s upcoming third season. 

 

The Blacklist (NBC)

Jonny Coyne (Turn: Washington Spies) will recur in the show’s current fifth season. 

Coyne will play Ian Garvey, a ruthless and opportunistic criminal who seizes a chance to gain leverage over a rival, using calculating force to manipulate others into doing his bidding.

 

Black Lightning (CW)

Edwina Findley (If Loving You Is Wrong) will recur on the CW’s midseason series starring Cress Williams. 

Findley will play Tori, the beautiful and cunning younger sister to Tobias Whale (Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones III). Tori’s charming nature is just a facade as she can be just as deadly as Tobias, an exciting threat to the people of Freeland.

 

911 (FOX)

Oliver Stark, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi and Rockmond Dunbar have been cast as series regulars on the new drama from Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. 

Details on their characters are still under wraps. 

 


SWAT (CBS)

Peter Facinelli (Nurse Jackie) will recur on the new drama series starring Shemar Moore. 

Facinelli plays Michael Plank, a confident, powerful businessman who also volunteers as a civilian Police Commissioner and head of the Police Board. While attending a charity event at SWAT headquarters, he is introduced to the team. 


Ghosted (FOX)

Dax Shepard (Parenthood) will guest star on the freshman comedy starring Craig Robinson. 

Shepard will play Sam, a charming computer programmer with questionable intentions. His presence at The Bureau Underground pits Max against Leroy.


Blindspot (NBC) and The Good Fight (CBS All Access)

Paul Gilfoyle (CSI) will guest star in an episode of Blindspot season 3 and will return in season 2 of The Good Fight. 

Guilfoyle will portray Rossi, who the Peacock is describing as a “fixer with a mysterious past.” 

When it comes to “The Good Fight,” Guilfoyle is reprising his role as Henry Rindell for an undisclosed number of episodes in Season 2.

 

The Brave (NBC)

Bahram Khosraviani (War Dogs) will recur in an episode of the military drama’s freshman season. 

 He will play Qassem Javad, a decorated veteran of the Iranian military who is now the head of Fahim Jarif’s security team.
