Casting Bits: Molly Shannon to guest on 'Will & Grace', Dermot Mulroney to return on 'New Girl' and more

Casting news alert! Here are the latest additions to new and returning shows we're covering on our site: 

Will & Grace (NBC)

Molly Shannon will guest star on the hit sitcom's revival. 

Shannon will be reprising her role of Val Bassett, which she originated in a 1999 episode of the Peacock’s hit sitcom’s original run. 

MacGyver (CBS)

Bruce McGill will guest star in season 2. 

McGill will play Detective Greer, a seasoned LAPD veteran who reads MacGyver his Miranda Rights for a murder. Not knowing who MacGyver really is, Detective Greer believes that he is a bomb maker who took down a warehouse, killing someone, and intends to charge him with domestic terrorism.

 

Blindspot (NBC)

Steve Kazee (Nashville) will recur in season 3 of the NBC drama. Details on his role are still being kept under wraps. 

 

Krypton (Syfy)

Paula Malcomson (Ray Donovan) and Blacke Ritson (Da Vinci's Demons) have boarded the cast of the Superman prequel series. 

Malcomson will play Charys, the matriarch of House El. Charys helps her son Seg navigate the treacherous pitfalls of Kandor City, their Kryptonian home embattled with oppression and revolt. The role has been recast after the pilot.

Ritson will play Brainiac. A parasitic, hyper-advanced alien android of immense intelligence, Brainiac is one of Superman’s oldest and most dangerous foes.

 

The Resident (FOX)

Jocko Sims (The Last Ship) has landed a recurring role on the upcoming medical series. 

Sims will play Dr. Ben Wilmot, a cocky and controlling doctor of internal medicine who takes interest in a patient with hopes of solving a decade-long medical mystery.

 

New Girl (FOX)

Dermot Mulroney will return in the show's seventh and final season as Jess' ex, Russell. He is booked to appear in multi-episodes.   

S.W.A.T. (CBS)

Bre Blair (Game of Silence) has landed a recurring role on the military drama's first season. 

Blair will play Annie Kay, the wife of Deacon (Jay Harrington), 2nd command of the SWAT unit lead by Hondo (Shemar Moore). She is patient, perceptive, and balances a busy house and newborn baby while her husband is out in the field. As the only wife on the squad, Annie is considered one of the family to the rest of the team, though she is fiercely loyal and devoted to Deacon and the kids above all else.
