‘Bones” New Squintern, Finn Abernathy Brings Some Southern Charm to The Jeffersonian

Bones’ newest squintern addition, Finn Abernathy~Luke Kleintank, is set to premiere in this Thursday’s newest installment, “The Hot Dog In The Competition”. Kleiintank spoils to EW about the new dynamic between his character Finn and the rest of the Jeffersonian gang.

“He’s good ole boy from the hills,” says actor Luke Kleintank, “The best way I can describe it[dynamic] is that it’s like the relationship I have with my brothers,” he says. “They [bicker], but kind of fall in love with each other at the end … I think he and Hodgins are going to be a dynamic duo, the two brothers that are just doing stupid stuff together.”And while it’s true that Finn’s “deep and tortured” past (which includes a criminal record!) plays some part in the team’s hesitation toward him, Kleintank says it’s what helps him form a deep connection with Brennan. “Brennan has a past of abuse and they can relate on that level,” he says. “As far as depth goes, I think him and Brennan might find something deep and a good connection. They’ve already started to. I think she’s going to open up to him and be a mentor — or a motherly figure in some ways.”

I don’t like the new Bones intern. I like the ‘southern man’ but Finn’s
fake accent sucks and his hick talk and poor grammar is unacceptable in
such a work place as the Jeffersonian. I was really annoyed and found it
hard to finish watching Bones and that made me mad.

The intern, Luke Kleintank is actually from Ohio which
    shares a border with Canada.

The awful southern accent and ridiculous pairing of deep scientific knowledge with back hills colloquialisms makes me cringe. And, writers take note, when he said he’d eaten a lot of BBQ and was chagrined he’d missed a chicken bone, you meant to say BBQ chicken. Barbecue, in the south, is pulled pork. Of course, as bad as he is, making Bones Act like a total idiot is even worse. For a few seasons, the writers allowed her to be bookish and nerdy but not a total misfit. They’ve made her entirely socially clueless this season and, if it continues, this long time fan is outta here

on the episode of Bones with the coupon queen, she was a real southener probably from this region of the state…luke should take lessons from her, instead of admitedly putting together his own accent from people several states away.

Well I am from the mountains of NC where Finn was from. Yes is accent is not great but some of his wording is. Some of us “uneducated hillbillies” have gotten PHD’s and MD’s and yes we may have that southern drawl and sometimes our choice of words may not be NYC material but we love being country people and would not trade the accents for all the world to live somewhere that people judge someone by their sound.

I think the problem some of us are having are the over-the-top cutesy little phrases like ‘well I’ll be a hedgehog’s nose on a butterfly’s antenna’ or whatever. It’s sort of something your grandpa would say, not a young PhD candidate at one of the country’s finest institutions, while working on a set of remains.

He grew up in Maryland, which shares a border with VA. To be fair.
