Not 1 but 2 villains next season.. “We made no secret of the fact that we subscribe to the Whedonesque model of having a big bad, and in Season 2, we’ll actually have two big bads,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim tells TVGuide.com. “They’ll both be very recognizable names to fans of the comic book. We’re really excited about both of them.”
Interestingly enough, Malcolm Merlyn has inspired the direction of the second season. “With Malcolm and the Dark Archer, we sort of had two big bads in one person,” he says. “In Season 2, we’re going to split them up essentially, and there will be a Malcolm-esque big bad and a Dark Archer-esque big bad.”
Deadshot back again.. Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed that “Diggle’s pursuit of Deadshot is going to be a big part of Season 2″. So get ready to see more of him in the future!
Roy continues his path to becoming a superhero.. Kreisberg revealed that “We’ll definitely find out how Oliver feels about taking Roy on as part of the team in Season 2″ and further added “Oliver Queen and Roy Harper will have a long and storied career together. As with all of these things, especially stuff that’s derived from the comic books, we’ve tried to both satisfy fans’ expectations, and turn them on their head. I think that Roy’s desire to be under the Arrow and Oliver’s desire to be as private a person as possible are going to collide.”
Island flashbacks here to stay.. “I think they have a really cool idea and really have it mapped out for what the Island will be in Season 2.” Stephen Amell spilled on the topic.
Diggle flashbacks? Kreisberg stated that potential back-story could be in the works for Diggle by stating that “Doing flashback episodes to Diggle’s life — whether it’s in Afghanistan, or when his brother was alive — we’re definitely interested in that. We have this amazing table of actors. Certainly David Ramsay could be the lead of his own show if he wanted to, so we’d love to see more of him.”
Moira and Oliver’s relationship.. Will Oliver be able to forgive his mother? Well, Kreisberg thinks “There’s still hope to rebuild the relationship between Moira and Oliver, of course. If ever there was a hero who could understand what Moira has done, it’s Oliver”.
Thea’s mature side.. Prepare to see a new side to Thea as Kreisberg revealed that “Nobody is ending this season the way they started. She really underwent an evolution this season, and in Season 2 when the characters pick up, we’ll see a Thea who has really internalized her experience, one who has really grown a great deal. That’s exciting for Willa and it’s exciting for us as writers”.
Laurel’s guilt.. Season 2 will explore Laurel’s grief over Tommy by blaming herself over choosing Oliver over him. It could also potentially be the stepping stone leading her to becoming the Black Canary.
Filming for the season begins July 10th, no official air date has been made yet though but is planned for an October, 2013 release.
